University of Genoa, UNIGE
The Department of Physics (DIFI) at University of Genoa (UNIGE) is devoted to research and teaching in all fields of physics. It comprises about 60 permanent staff (full and associate professors, and researchers). Research activity in condensed matter physics (material nanoscience, superconductivity and biophysics) is top level and internationally recognized, and the Department has recently been classified among the 7 best Italian Physics Departments (MIUR grant "Dipartimento di Eccellenza"). The scientists working at DIFI have produced more than 1000 publications in international journals in the last five years and are involved in many national and international research projects.
Role in the project:
UNIGE is involved in WP3, and its tasks concern the computational study of the physico- chemical properties of nanomaterials and of their interactions with biological matter. These activities fit very well the competences of the Computational nanoscience group, which has thorough experience at the modelling of inorganic (metal nanoparticles, colloids), organic (synthetic polymers, carbon nanoparticles) and biological matter (lipid membranes, proteins), from ab-initio to atomistic and coarse-grained resolution.
