Swansea University (SU)

Swansea University (SU) is a public higher-education and research institution located in South Wales (UK). It was established by Royal Charter in 1920 and has recently secured major investment (ca €400 million) in a second campus, as well as in substantial capital projects that include over £100 million of new research infrastructure within the Medical School. Swansea University Medical School (SUMS) has enjoyed substantial growth over the last decade, seeing a significant increase in annual research income standing at £13 million per year. Exceptional performance by the Medical School in the last REF assessment (2nd in UK in Unit of Assessment 3) testifies to a first-class research environment – it was ranked joint first in the UK for research environment and second for research quality and impact, with 95% of the research submitted assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent.

Role in the project:

SU will act as the Leader of WP2. SU will contribute to (1) the development of the SIA e-infrastructure (WP1), (2) in vitro human toxicity studies WP2, (3) the development and testing of grouping hypotheses based on the Mode of Action (AOPs), and (4) to the stakeholder engagement, dissemination and exploitation activities of the project (WP8).
