The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS)
The Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) is the French National Centre for Scientific Research, is the largest fundamental science agency in Europe, and the second largest in the world. It is organized in research units, focusing on a specific area of research. Molecular Microbiology and Structural Biochemistry (MMSB) is a CNRS research unit focusing on the molecular basis of diseases, with particular reference to bacterial infections, cancer, and also metabolic diseases. At MMSB, Dr. Monticelli leads a research group named MOBI, focusing on computational biophysics and bioinformatics.
Role in the project:
Within SUNSHINE, the MOBI team (CNRS, France) will coordinate WP3, that is about Multiscale Modelling approaches. WP3 has several objectives:
to characterize physical properties of multi-component nanomaterials (MCNMs) by multiscale simulations;
to predict the biodistribution and biological fate of MCNMs;
to characterize the interaction of MCNMs with the biological milieu;
to integrate experimental (WP2) and simulation (WP3) data into the SUNSHINE Open & FAIR database;
to uncover relationships between material properties and biological activity using statistical modelling approaches;
to inform the development of grouping and read-across methods.
The group at CNRS will, in particular, work at the characterization of material properties using computer modelling at the molecular and atomic level. Moreover, we will predict the interaction of MCNMs with biological materials present in environmental or physiological milieus.
